Future is the third studio album by Los Angeles rock band the Seeds. The album is a notable shift in musical direction for the band as they moved away from garage rock, and began experimenting more with psychedelic rock. Upon its release in 1967, the album reached the Top 100 on the Billboard 200, but their single, A Thousand Shadows, was less successful than The Seeds' previous hits. The Sonics-1965 - Here Are The the Seeds' third album, 1967's Future, was pegged by critics as the band's attempt to ride the wave of baroquepsychedelicorchestral magic the Beatles defined with Sgt. The melody and feel of that track is revisited on Future in the form of Out of the Question and the spooky organ of A Thousand Shadows, but a deliberate attempt to move away from the band's by-the-numbers caveman garage rock toward something more experimental, spectral, and musical can be felt all over the rest of the album. The ensuing album, Future , seemed at once both calculated and confused. For some, it represents the Seeds grand psychedelic statement, a mind-blowing articulation of the flower power movement of which they had been proclaimed torchbearers. To others, Future is Sky Saxons folly: an over-egged, acid-damaged pudding that submerged the true power of the band with meaningless grandeur. The truth lies somewhere between. A narcissistic over-confidence made Sky feel the need to now augment Daryl, Jan and Rick in the studio with numerous overdubs strings, harp, tuba on hastily cobbled materia
