Glad this version was made available, albeit extremely limited. It's one of the greatest Jazz, Rock, and Electronic albums ever produced. That being said, the vinyl quality isn't the greatest. Mine was slightly warped right out of the package and lots of flakes of paper from the inner sleeves. Can hear some quiet pops and clicks here and there. 4/5 on the actual pressing. Would love to see a heavy weight 180 gram pressing of this eventually. Just my 2 cents =)
180g does nothing for the sound quality, it only theoretically helps prevent warps- but with so many warped records getting pumped out these days, 180 has just become a marketing gimmick for the most part.
This version is indistinguishable from the other represses, so there is no need for this page. This is the only page that should exist for the repress - https://www.discogs.com/Sound-Tribe-Sector-9-Artifact/release/9436374
you bet! (awesome words, magnificent words, some of the greatest words you've ever seen)
Merge is pending! Thanks for your input! (words words words)
Does anyone know if these are being sold on the current tour? It does not look like the 2019 reissue LP is on their website.
doubt it (words words words words words words words words)
This album being re-pressed and released on vinyl with the full track listing was a dream come true, so I did not hesitate to jump on a copy when it was first announced in 2016. On the first listen it became apparent that the copy I had was not without issues. There is a pronounced rumble throughout the entire 2016 copy, and the B-side was pressed off-center, enough to result in challenges with consistent tracking on that side. By the time these particular issues came to light, there was no option for an exchange, so I immediately grabbed another copy from the 2017 release as soon as the sale went live. The 2017 release was not much better than the 2016 release. At least the B-side was properly centered, but now this copy was loaded with low-key snaps, pops, and crackles all throughout the entirety of the album, and was disappointed to find that the D-side had a number of very obvious fingerprints all over it, right out of the sleeve. The fingerprints came away in a cleaning, but unfortunately the noise throughout did not. All in all, I'm still happy to include this album in my collection simply on account of the meaning of this album to me and the sentimentality attached to it, but despite it being one of my favorites from a creative standpoint, both copies amount to little more than an object that I can't enjoy listening to on account of the quality issues experienced 2/2 times from two different runs. A shame.
i got one to listen to and one to keep sealed ( :
that's a bummer. My copy (2017) is basically flawless. There's 1 or 2 pops throughout, and both are during silence between songs.
I would be willing to trade a NM original pressing of Artifact for 2 copies of the repress. Two friends who have been seeing STS9 since the late 90's blew it so I'm wiling to take one for the team...
Yep OG press only has 6 songs if the Discogs entry is correct.
yes, that's correct. More of a collectors item now that the full album is out. The OG press is more rare and therefore more valuable.
Isn't the OG pressing incomplete? As in, not all the songs?
I just can't understand why they had so little pressed. Sold out in hours with little to no advertising. For a band that appreciates it's fans, this frustrated a good good many of them.
they seem to have a hard time succeeding with pressing records, they've had messed up orders of hundreds of records that were unusable because of pressing defects. I know with Artifact they had at least 1, I think 2 messed up orders. So I suspect they're wary of pressing a larger number in case something happens with the pressing.
Love the album. Vinyl is not particularly clean - lots of pops and snats for a new record.
My first copy was like this. Second was much much better.
Grateful to have a piece of sound tribe history. Had no idea it would end up so limited. Would of bought more for y'all hehe. Wish more had a chance to score one but I can appreciate making a rare release and giving their music a high value. The one copy I have is very special.

Got all the xl artifact clothes looking to trade for a vinyl or Xxl shirts
It's a real shame they released it in such a lame manner. We missed out on our opportunity to get something we would've loved to have and the eBay flippers got a big payday at the expense of fans. We have a sealed Peaceblaster available for trade! Message us if you're interested!
Scared a bunch of the artifact clothing I could trade but please dm me with any available
Received mine in the mail today, and it sounds fantastic.
I'm pretty sure there are some clicks and pops put into songs on purpose, like on Peoples around 2 minutes in.
Does yours have many clicks or pops? Mine is decent for the most part, but has sections that are a little rough. EDIT: Got a replacement A/B plate- much better on this one.
Got my copy today, paid $45 on here and I couldn't be happier. Homies complaining about surface pops and ting need to clean their shit and shut up. Sound Tribe's best vinyl available at the moment, hands down.
Still willing to do this trade? PM me if so... Cheers!
