Begin to Hope is the fourth album by American singer-songwriter, Regina Spektor. Rolling Stone magazine named it the 21st-best album of 2006. Regina Spektor. Begin to Hope. On Begin to Hope, Regina Spektor treads a delicate balance between her anti-folk past and her present home on Sire Records. Though the label re-released Soviet Kitsch in 2004, Begin to Hope is Spektor's first original material for Sire, and it feels more like a major-label debut than Soviet Kitsch ever did. The album's big, glossy production and preponderance of drum machines and keyboards inches Spektor toward territory that isn't exactly mainstream, but is closer to a more conventional adult alternative singersongwriter sound. On Begin to Hope, Regina Spektor takes another crack at her style of story-telling. This time, landing herself at a peak of 51st place on Billboards Hot 100, and appearing on the chart for 13 weeks, with Fidelity. From the beautiful, melancholy Samson to the cheerful, but morbid On the Radio, Spektor demonstrates expertise writing thoughtful songs. And of songwriters who sing in their own voice, Spektor says, Its almost like putting a ball and chain around your foot and being sentenced to being yourself. Who the hell wants to be themselves all the time Its so boring. NPR notes that this is the first time Regina sings in Russian, her native language. Begin To Hope, her follow up to that album, takes Regina's interesting style to the next level, progressing into something more layered and mature than her previous effort. It's more tame on the quirkiness, but heavy on atmosphere, catchiness, beauty, and still those random outburts of strangeness. What we have here is Fiona Apple's Extraordinary Machine on acid, so to speak. With this album, Ms. Spektor should be gaining more attention. She has put together one of the greatest female singersongwriter albums in up there with the greats of Fiona Apple, Tori Amos, and Neko Case. With time she should have the respect they all get. Genre: Singer-Songwriter. Regina Spektor maintains herself as a consistent artist with her follow-up to Soviet Kitsch, Begin To Hope, and simultaneously releases the singles that would garner her greater exposure as a pop force in the mid 2000s. Although Begin To Hope relies on a more consistent tone than her debut record, the charming nature of the artist doesn't deflate across her second record it merely takes a new form. Begin To Hope is a far more poppy turn for Spektor, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. read more. Complete sua coleção de Regina Spektor. Begin To Hope 19xFile, MP3, Album. 44112-2, PRO-CD-101731. But while Regina Spektor's music is anti-folk in the way it subverts the traditional coffeehouse vibe, it's less interested in rebellion and more concerned with the joy of eccentricity, melody and surprise. Begin To Hope is full of surprises, and like her promising major label debut Soviet Kitsch, it displays an easy facility with song structure that enables her to go in different-sometimes wildly off-the-wall-directions without sounding scattered. Begin to Hope is a tremendous album. Thanks to VH1 for playing Fidelity practically every morning
