Album

Melodrama is the second studio album by New Zealand singer Lorde, released through Universal, Lava and Republic Records on 16 June 2017. A departure from the minimalist style of her debut album Pure Heroine 2013, it is a pop and electropop record incorporating piano instrumentation and maximalist electronic beats. Inspired in part by the emotions and insights gained after her breakup with longtime boyfriend James Lowe, Lorde calls Melodrama a record about being alone The good parts and the bad parts. The albums cover was painted by Brooklyn artist Sam McKinniss, who was initially approached by Lorde over the rest of his work. They became friends, and Lorde eventually commissioned McKinniss for the piece. Album 2017 11 Songs. Other Versions. 11 Songs. Music Videos. Green Light. More by Lorde. Royals Deluxe Single - Single. Green Light Chromeo Remix - Single. Magnets feat. Lorde - EP. Homemade Dynamite Remix - Single. Melodrama is the sophomore studio album by Lorde released on June 16th, 2017. Green Light , Perfect Places, Sober and Liability were announced to be singles and promotional singles from the album, respectively. Writing for the album began as early as December 2013 and continued through false starts, fruitless detours and stretches of inactivity as Lorde stepped back from the public spotlight, taking shape after her breakup from her longtime boyfriend in 2015. Melodrama is Lordes study of being a young woman finding her own conviction in unsteady circumstances. Sometimes, this also involves being single-a breakup and a raucous house party serve as thematic through-lines-but romance is only part of the albums script. Like her 2013 debut Pure Heroine, Melodrama is a work of sleek self-possession, packed with bursts of peculiar rhymes and production that confound expected song formulas. However, while Heroine cast off the trappings of materialism atop spacious trip-pop, Melodrama catches the mist off of New Wave rhythms that befit the name. Praise Lorde. Melodrama is the best pop album of the year so far-and suggests pop isnt what the singer-songwriter should be making at all. By Carl Wilson. June 19, 20173:36 PM. Lorde performs at Coachella on April 16 in Indio, California. Christopher PolkGetty Images for Coachella. About two-thirds of the way into the three-minute Homemade Dynamite from New Zealand pop star Lordes second album, Melodrama, theres a moment that captures both a what makes the 20-year-old Ella Yelich-OConnor such a unique and special artist and b why chart pop seems like an odd field for this particular young visionary to have. stumbled into. Review: Lordes Melodrama Is Fantastically Intimate, a Production Tour De Force. Our take on the New Zealand divas long-awaited second LP. Now 20, Lorde signals a new order straightaway, with lonely piano chords where Pure Heroines pure electronic palette was. They open the single Green Light, a barbed message to an ex who the singer cant quite shake. The song grows into a stomping electro-acoustic thrill ride, its swarming, processed vocal chant I want it recalling another precocious, hyperliterate, synth-loving auteur singer-songwriter Kate Bush, who insisted I want it all back in 1982 on Suspended in Gaffa. Album Review: Lorde Acts Her Age on Melodrama. By Chris Willman. Chris Willman. But she was so much older then shes younger than that now. Lorde acts her age on Melodrama, the great weird-pop album 2017 has been waiting for. She spent a lot of that debut album on the outside of young life looking in, adopting a slightly scolding persona she recently wryly referred to as library girl. For this four-years-later follow-up, its not as if she just chucked all that maturity, but shes at least wandering in and out of the party, and alternating between fretful and frisky, just like any good 20-year-old should. Melodrama Lorde album. Pure Heroine 2013. A departure from the minimalist style of Lorde's debut album Pure Heroine 2013, it is a pop and electropop album incorporating piano instrumentation and maximalist electronic beats. The album, which was recorded after Lorde's relationship with her long-time boyfriend James Lowe broke down in 2015, has been described as a loose concept album that explores the theme of solitude

does anyone else's "homemade dynamite" track repeat the final line twice? like mine says "our friends, our drinks, we get inspired" two times in a row at the end
Lianeni
Yes i got that too! Really weird but I kinda like it.
Iphonedivorced
Mine does. Is it on all the vinyl pressings or only this version? That line is definitely only there once on Spotify.
Unirtay
my copy sounds beautiful. great pressing. 180g rocks I dont care what anyone says
Xar
A lot of surface noise on this one, fuzz is always noticable when listening. Clicks and pops also Very common.Makes me sad that this Great album got so badly treated.
Kecq
no surface noise on mine just tonnes of sibilance! i've owned two copies of the black version and one copy of the blue version, all three discs have a scratch somewhere on them and are full of sibilance. very bad pressing!
Mr.Savik
This sounds awesome, though there's a ton of sibilance on my copy which sucks.
Burilar
Yep, I had sibilance on my copy too, particularly the track "Writer In The Dark". Came with a small scratch on Liability too :(
Yggdi
My copy came with a lot of scratches and some kind of residual blue plastic dust, unfortunately.Haven't played it yet though It's a beautiful piece, but with all the problems I'm not sure it's that worth it.I only bought it because I really like Lorde and Melodrama is a fantastic album, besides being a gorgeous vinyl.
Avarm
My copy also had some blue residue and a small scratch on Liability. I bought mine around August too so maybe there was a batch of not so great pressings?

I finally received my copy from Amazon today (7/31/2018). It had been on backorder for so many months I had forgotten all about it. Noticed it was pressed by Cheesy (GZ) Media so I was immediately alarmed at what I was expecting to hear-- the usual mix of loud random pops and non-fill distortions that they have become so well-known for over the years. What a surprise! GZ actually did a good job on this baby! The mastering is solid, a great overall pressing. Very nice packaging including a Stoughton tip-on gatefold jacket, lyrics booklet and set of art prints. This is well worth owning if you like Lorde. I always machine clean new records and resleeve before playing. Not doing this is a common reason for complaints about surface noise.
Topmen
the deluxe blue version was pulled and repressed by the record label. the final version is perfection, not a skip or scratch...of course, i'm not sure if you're buying secondhand how you'd know what version you were getting. I didn't receive mine until mid-july 2018.
Zetadda
There's some pops and clicks, also you can hear the surface noise whilst the quiet parts kick in, but it's punchy, dynamic and pretty well mastered. It's not the catastrophe that I expected from GZ media... still, It could have been excellent since this album is so far her magnum opus & of the best albums released over the last decade.
Road.to sliver
Also would like to add that the packaging is super neat: the gatefold jacket is sturdy and well made, it has a clean matte (I guess) finish, whilst the booklet and the photo inserts are phenomenally packaged and look stunning.
Low_Skill_But_Happy_Deagle
tight and punchy bass, clear highs and no surface noise at all. no sibilance, even on the inner tracks that feature heavy vocals and a lot of "S" sounds. 10/10, great mastering and pressing. super impressed. this is how pop vinyl should be done.
HeonIc
I bought the deluxe edition of Melodrama from SoundStageDirect.com and I am always satisfied with how they package the records. The sound on the vinyl was massive and very clean. The packaging is really nice with the 6 photographed inserts and the lyrics booklets. To others complaining about the sound, perhaps clean the vinyl with a record cleaning solution and a brush.
Mopimicr
Good for you that you were lucky getting a perfect copy...but cleaning does not help with scratches...
Envias
Why let something be mastered at Sterling by Ray Janos and then be pressed at GZ and make great music and good mastering sound like shit? My second copy was even worse than the first lots of residue with scratches all over it.
Tholmeena
I tried three copies, all of them had clicks and pops in different songs, I stay with the least worst copy....
INwhite
Same here - received my copy yesterday from Amazon. Theres a big, deep scratch all over Side A (looks like you've gone over the record with a knife) and a small scratch on Side B, also very dirty. I send it back to Amazon and hope the second copy is in much better shape. What a shame.
The Apotheoses of Lacspor
I'm hoping my copy coming in next week isn't dirty and scratched. I've heard so many mixed opinions about this press. Some have perfect clean copies and some are god awful.
Llallayue
Bought my pressing today. The record itself looked really dirty, had a lot of noise, and skipped twice during "Green Light." Anybody else have this issue? I may just need to clean it, but the skips are making me think about returning it.
Quttaro
Clean the record with a record cleaning solution and use a brush to wipe it. This should be standard routine before playing any record.
Gavikelv
Same here....disappointing. Mastering seems alright but my pressing has some flaws.
Umi
I'm pretty impressed with this release. It's quite dynamic and punchy at times and there's little to no surface noise. You may need to turn up with the volume a bit but once you get the right level it sounds excellent. Overall very good release with great packaging. The artwork that comes with the deluxe is well worth it as well.
DEAD-SHOT
thicker gatefold, like the other commenter mentioned it fits in a single plastic sleeve
Kamuro
Thicker gatefold meant for 2xLP but it isn't that "thick." I was able to fit the jacket it in a protective sleeve for a single LP. The left side of the jacket contains the prints and the right side has the disc.
