First pressing of 300 copies was instantly sold out and selling for $100 already. The second pressing is housed in a charming vintage-style unipak gatefold sleeve and a poster. 1000 copies pressing. Out of nowhere comes this acid-folk / psych / baroque / progressive masterpiece!! Constantine’s debut LP ‘Day Of Light’ will lead you on a lysergic odyssey filled with flute, sitar, tabla, Mellotron, electric harpsichord, Vox and Hammond organ, male-female vocals, studio effects & more. Hailing from Chicago, psychedelic troubadour Constantine has recorded this album with help from members of legendary ’71 folk psychedelic cult band O.W.L. (Of Wondrous Legends), including album art by Stephen Titra. A strong emphasis is placed on songwriting and arrangement, while the songs themselves have a Baroque, nuanced and hopeful atmosphere. Fans of the 1969/70 dense, delicate and psychedelic/folk sound need to get Day Of Light into your ears!
You can still thrill to listen to an album in the year 2016? We are now all convinced and agree that rock music has already given us emotions to no end, but the best has already been said and written, that there remains room to explore new sounds and creativity of the artists often reduced to mere imitation of some illustrious former colleague. The extraordinary Constantine Hastalis debut album has certainly not the originality of the absolute requirements but contains within it the songs are so beautiful that leave you breathless. Not least, we remember the beginning of the new millennium a disc so well played, arranged and finished in every detail. You can not choose whether to define the most beautiful perfect vocal harmonies, or the rich and varied instrumentation. Constantine is from Chicago, the city that has seen its ranks substantial band like The Shadows of Knight, the H.P. Lovecraft and the great and forgotten Ultimate Spinach. The Constantine sound is decidedly psychedelic, in the purest sense of the word, with remembrance of acid folk, especially English. A first listen of the disc brings to mind the dark masterpiece Mark Fry "Dreaming with Alice", prohibited destination for many collectors, and without exaggeration we are the same stellar levels. Constantine the album is called "Day of Light" and is presented with a colorful and fabulous cover in style from psychedelic singer and artist Stephen Titra. The latter was part of the dark OWL (Of Wondrous Legends), they too in Chicago, which in 1971 recorded a stunning self-titled album of soft psychedelia, rejected by all the labels of the time but fortunately brought to light in 2008 thanks to Dawson Prater and printed by Locust Media. Constantine had the honor to have two musicians of this group in his album, in addition to the same Titra, the 12-string acoustic Guild we find Al Keeler sounding bells, vibraphone and marimba contributing a lot to the variegated sound that breathes around the disk. "Day of Light" features 11 original compositions where you listen to an incredible amount of tools, including some that nowadays seemed to have been lost, such as the sitar and tablas, always synonyms for eastern music and psychedelia in general. It is a solo project that originally Constantine would have to complete in a single week. It took four long years to man instead of Chicago to complete his masterpiece. But a long wait was well rewarded. There is not a single comma out of place here, everything has been made with an attention to detail so high that it seems incredible that this is the work of a beginner to more with a self-production. Constantine has surrounded himself with an impressive number of musicians, many are true friends, everyone has given his important contribution, we are not here to list them all, they easily found in the Bandcamp link at bottom of article where you can also order it physically or download it digitally with a minimum bid. Much of the credit of the beautiful vocals of the album, and of course at the same Constantine, goes to the nice Jen Williams that very often we hear along the eleven tracks, in the manner of the best folk revival bands of the seventies, which often had a lead singer in training . We speak of the usual names, Tudor Lodge, Mellow Candle and the same Spirogyra all bands that somehow the hard Constantine recalls. We can already hear the opening, in the small magic of just two minutes, (Into the land) of time forget that introduces the long track The trip (parts I & II) by almost 9 minutes. And here it is almost impossible not to mention the glorious Ultimate Spinach, though if only for the equipment used, very similar to that of the backing band of Constantine. Heavenly voices, flute (uncle) Steve Hastalis that intertwine on keyboards in an amazing kaleidoscope of pure psychedelia pure sixties mold. Great time. Then there is the music of Eastern Egyptian days and relaxing On through the ages, with the voice that reminds Annie Haslam of Renaissance. The folk hallucinated Fountains-Reflections is the stuff of envy to Donovan on acid, the same way the fairy tale Voyage of the crystal bird, other pure pearl. The final Ramia, over six minutes and the short title track, Day of light, other acoustic delight, are the definitive seal to define a drive that wonderful seems almost reductive. The album is now only released in a beautiful edition vinyl, gatefold cover and printed in 300 copies, many of which Guerssen captured by the Spanish, who will distribute them throughout Europe and beyond. Accompanying the 33 laps there is also a single with two tracks, Worshipping the sun and Baby Blue Iris, the generally very beautiful. "Day of Light" is the first major of 2016 disk in addition to being one of the most glittering jewels of folk neo-psychedelia and acid heard for many years now. Highly recommended to those who enjoy other splendid sound craftsmen like the Swiss Balduin, the Dutchman Jacco Gardner and our Trip Hill, Florence and perhaps the best of all. Easy to imagine that his hearing will be limited to the usual narrow circle underground that often manages to turn a simple black vinyl in a true object of worship. http://www.distorsioni.net/canali/dischi/day-of-light
The "DAY OF LIGHT" is one of the most psychedelic and melodic masterpieces of all times. It is the music of our child innocence.. After you put your headphones on, you immediately start to listen to colours and see the sounds. You don't need any drugs. The music by itself is hallucinogenic. The "trip" is full of surprises, always pleasant leaving a sweet taste in your ears but also in your eyes and in your whole body. Constantine Hastalis made the impossible. He put himself among the psych giants of all times ever. Thank you our Greek child! Greece is proud of you.
The biggest surprise for 2015 and one of the best modern folk-psych releases .????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????☮☮☮☮
