Album

The Power of Love is the second solo album by The Damned guitarist Captain Sensible, released in November 1983 by A&M Records. The album didn't chart but the single Glad It's All Over reached number 6 on the UK Singles Chart. The album features contributions from producer Tony Mansfield, Robyn Hitchcock, Ruts drummer Dave Ruffy and the band Dolly Mixture, among others. When Captain Sensible's first solo album, 1982's Women and Captains First, became a major hit after his synth pop cover of Happy Talk went to number one on the singles charts, it validated his very real talents as a songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, while also suggesting that listeners were eager to accept that Sensible was more than just the cheerful loon. Captain Sensible's second solo album The Power Of Love is filled with catchy new wavepop songs with a touch of psychedelia. Favourites include Glad It's All Over, Stop The World & I'm A Spider all of which were released as singles. Actually the whole album is solid though I'd say his first LP Women and Captains First is a bit better. All of the tracks on this cd are pretty good and, overall, 'The Power Of Love' is probably a stronger record than 'Women And Captain's First'. Sensible may not be the world's best vocalist but his lyrics have a great deal of depth to them and he is certainly an under-rated songsmith. About captain sensible.
